Default Automatic shifter change

Hey guys I got a question here. Still a fresh fish so bear with me..

Is there any tested and good way to change the shifter of a pre 98 SC to an after 98?

I am still on the fence between these two different ones here in Tulsa, I just don't like the big stick look of the 97. But don't want to pay the extra $$ for the 98.

Really want a 5 spd. But every person that I see that has one for sale is either asking way too much or already tampered with the car. (Real rides are built not bought)
