Default '95 ECU Replacement - Not Starting

Just replaced the engine ECU in my '95 SC400 with a rebuilt unit from All Computer Resources in FL, and now there's no CEL and it won't start - just cranks. I see where other folks have had the same issue, and looks like the likely fix is to get a new ECU. Just curious though, what is the real underlying cause? Did they program it incorrectly? Could it still have a faulty component? Just wondering why this is a common problem...

Have you asked the seller what potential problems could be causing your starting issues?

Yeah, I've made them aware, but they have yet to respond.

Hello,

Do you have Spark and Injectors?

No CEL when the Ignition is in the ON position is a solid sign that either the bulb is burnt out, or that the ECU is not functioning, I would contact the place that did a rebuild to see if they offer warranty repairs if it's not too late, and if not, you will have to find a different place.

Tanin Auto Electronix is a highly regarded place around here, I myself haven't worked with them, so I can't speak for the quality, but it is a place to start from all the positive reviews that are out there, in fact, they also have an account here on this forum.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Indeed. In fact, Tanin has my ECU at this very moment, so I'll see for myself how it performs when I get it back.

I just got it and it has a warranty, so I should be good. I put the old ECU back in and car starts and runs, so it definitely points the finger at the new ECU as the issue.

I've used Tanin before, they're just a little pricey. Same ECU is almost 3x as much.

We are not aware of any other companies that actually plug your repaired ECU or any refurbished ECU that they have in stock into vehicles to ensure proper function like we do. If they did you wouldn't be having this issue. It's just an extra step we take to avoid back and forth.

With that said, we aren't looking to steal business from other companies. We are here if anyone needs us.

Yep, understood

The climate control module I purchased from Tanin has been rock solid - no issues. Wish these cars didn't have so many darn computers.

No, I should go back to my 911. It was easier to work on and so far, much more reliable

Relentless Motorsports in TX is well known for their ECU repairs as well, Josh is very transparent and sends pictures along the way.
