Can you Fix a small crack in a Rim, Where?
Hello There,
I've got a question for all of you......my dad recently took his 993 Porsche w/ 18" Antera Rims to "Wheel Works" because the driver's side Rear Tire kept getting low on air.
They told him that there is a small crack in the rim (you can't see it from the side) and that his rim's model is discontinued. Being that Antera (I don't know if that is spelled right) Rims aren't cheap he wants to see if there is a way to fix the problem in the rim's (sand/fill/refine) small crack.
Here is the main question::
Do any of you guys know a place that will do this? If so, where and do you have any idea how much it would cost?
Thanks,
-Jason
(not the best picture but those are the rims)

This place in Anaheim restored my wheels after bad accident for cheap. Basically all the wheel repair shops take their wheels to them and then charge over their cost to customers. Better do it direct.

Those are the Antera 123, really popular between about '93 and '97.
I suppose the crack could be welded by a reputable shop, but wheel manufacturers typically do not condone this as is makes the aluminum surrounding the crack more brittle.
On heat-treated wheels, welding can change the temper of the wheels (not an issue on the cast Antera wheels). Given that the Antera 123 is discontinued, a shop like Tech 1 or Custom Wheel Service in Anaheim {(714) 632-6700} can probably handle the repair via welding.
