2023 NX350 is a huge disappointment. Came from a 2017 Mercedes GLC. The road noise with the NX is so annoying. Anyone else experiencing this?

 

I thought they are the same in noise level. I had 2020 Mercedes GLC300 before but I do notice a slight horse power differences when accelerating. GLC300 has more torque power when accelerating and it only has 250hp vs my NX350 which has 275hp. Also the ambient lights on NX350 is very weak. NX350 is a great bargaining car in terms of included package vs GLC300 would have costed several thousand dollars more.

 

Did your GLC have acoustic side glass? Did it have non-run-flat tires?

 

I have the 2022 450h+ F-Sport model and I fully agree about the noise level. At motorway speeds on the runflat 20" tyres, a normal conversation is impossible at speeds over 70mph, 110kph. There is road noise through the suspension and from the terrible design of the door sill closure, and the road vibration comes direct into the car causing the HUD to vibrate and blur the picture. My winter tyres, Continental nordic studless on 18" wheels are much better, but by no means good. I will replace the 20" tyres next year with sound deadening types, but I don't know yet what to do about the door sills, which also attract large amounts of dirt that is not washed away in the auto wash.
I have a lot of other comments about the design of the car, and will poist them when I have time.

 

Strange. Mine is not F-Sport, but I find it to be quiet and vibration free at 70+mph when cruising. That's with less than 2K miles, perhaps things will change with more miles.
The only disappointment is how buzzy and noisy the engine gets with medium+ acceleration, but once leveled off the car seems quiet.

 

Two things contribute to road noise: tires and poor sound insulation.
20" low profile tires are terrible for noise. Comparing two vehicles, one with 20" tires and another with 18" tires is like comparing apples to oranges. Of course, the brand and model of the tires contribute, too.
Toyota / Lexus is known for picking terrible tires as their OEM equipment. I have owned 9 Toyota-made vehicles, and I can safely say that only one of them came with decent tires from the factory. Not great, just decent. All the other were poor choices - short life, bad snow/ice traction, noisy. It's unbelievable that my daughters KIA Soul came with better, higher quality tires than any Toyota costing many times more.

 

I have 2022 NX35h base model. No major issues with road noise. Some but not annoying at higher speeds.
18” so that helps. Still rather not have run flats. Every road imperfection you feel. Will keep run flats for now till I’m tired of feeling everything.

 

The "good news" about the run-flats is that they won't last very long, LOL.

 

Agree, terrible choice for an OEM time. I did not have the patience for more than 100 miles however. LOL

Not going to drive a new cars with inferior tires for 10ks of miles just to save a bit. Your ears, enjoyment of car and just piece of mind will make it wortt to dump them.

 

You could probably get your money back if you sold it, right?

 

I also own an FSport 450h+ and conversations at 130km/hr is still possible and no vibrations causing HUD to vibrate. Something wrong with your tire balance?

 

Yes, Thanks for that, I thought that was the case originally and took the car to the dealer where they checked static and dynamic balance, OK. Then we experimented with different pressures, the result of which was to set the tyres to 2.3 bar, which is not the ideal but it makes a small difference. It will have to do until we have properly checked the dampers and that they are correctly set. Interestingly, the winter tyres on 18" wheels make a BIG difference to lower speed noise (as expected) and a noticeable difference at 110-130 kph, but the vibration persists, leading me to the suspension as the culprit. I will post when I know the answer and I am preparing another post with several other observationson the car.

 

I have owned my (my wife's) NX350 Lux. AWD about 4 months and was tired of the poor ride quality and excessive road noise-------so I fixed the problem. The Bridgestone run flats that come on the NX350 are about the worst run flats on the market. I finally switched to (non run flat) 245/50r20 V rated Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 with 800 treadwear rating. What a difference in ride quality and road noise. Bought them from Amazon and had them installed at my local tire store. The 235 and 245 are only about 3/10 wider and in dia. Thanks, I am also going to change to a better tyre. My winter tyres on 18" alloy wheels have made a remarkable difference. I have seen that there are Michelin, Goodyear and Continental tyres in the correct sizes with sound deadening technology as well, so I will try one of them for summer. I will also get a thorough check of the suspension components and mountings. If that doesen't stop it then it's sell/trade.

 

A 2018 GLC has a decibel level at 55 mph of 53.8 and at 70 mph 59.6.
A 2018 NX300h no data on 2022 at 55 mph 47.1 and 70 mph 64.3
My guess is Lexus did not redesign the NX in 2022 and make it louder. Our 2023 350h is quiet. Alex on Autos on YouTube rated the 2022 NX 350h in cabin noise with an A-.
