I'm currently driving a RX450H, Placed and order yesterday for NX350H, but I didn't receive any paperwork from the salesman after I gave him a 500.00 check. Is that normal. He was just scratching notes on a yellow pad. At one point he picked up his pad and said, "Do you want an F-Sport?" He had a printout behind my information. I have never mentioned F-Sport..
By the way, I test drove one and it is really a great car.

My SA drew up the paperwork for the order and refundable deposit but never gave me anything when I left. A few weeks later a coworker mentioned he's getting screwed over by his mazda dealership saying they won't give back his deposit which they claimed was refundable. After that I reached out to my guy and asked for everything in writing. I would advise you to do the same.

I would go back to the dealership and ask for paperwork to confirm the order and deposit amount.
I put a $2K deposit on a NXh with my local dealer. They said once they were allocated a vehicle with my specs/ colors, I was locked in. A month later another dealer was allocated my 'wish list' NX. I jumped on it & got my $2K back. It's my understanding that unless the dealer has been allocated the car you want and gives you a VIN, you are untitled to get a full refund. I didn't receive any sort of contract saying this, just a receipt for my $2K.
My dealer asked for a $1k fully refundable deposit over email in September 2021, never saw a transaction pulled from my account. Received my car on December 2021. Apparently they just ask for it to make sure you're serious about it.

Had deposits at several dealers with unique VINs that I had "reserved." Pulled the trigger on one I found at a different dealer and got my money back on all the rest of them. Granted they all stated the deposits were refundable for any reason (and I had that fact in writing). YMMV.

Perhaps due your jurisdiction. In CA, Both America, that deposit needs to be returned immediately regardless of what was signed or agreed upon our what was shared.
