I live in an area where catalytic converter thefts are common, and I've heard that hybrids, especially the Prius, are a common target. I've heard that some Lexus' are designed in such a way that the Cat is difficult to cut - I've heard this about the current gen RX hybrids. Anyone know if this is the case for the NX, or if I should get a cage installed?
You are probably more likely to have the whole car stolen than just the cat. Don't think there is a demand for a 2022 cat for an NX....probably good for at least 7 years...

I always thought they were stolen to extract the precious metals, not as cheap parts? Am I wrong to think that?

No. You're absolutely right. Newer vehicles are less prone to catalytic converter theft as they are harder to access. It usually happens to older cars.

Thanks!
I watch a video on youtube from AMD. I think AMD mentioned toyota/lexus changed the design that make it impossible to steal the catalytic converter.

I agree. That's why I am working hard to clear my garage and planning to park my NX in the garage once it is here.
Lexus changed the design to where the catalytic converter is right behind the exhaust manifold up inside the engine bay. It is nearly impossible to steal without opening the hood.
