The speed signs show up on the HUD on the NX 350 but never on the NAV screen. Is this common?
This is consistent with older Lexus systems. The Road Sign Assist (RSA) reads signs as you pass them, then shows on the dash and in the HUD, while the Nav screen shows the speed for your current location from the navigation database. Again, this experience is from past models and I cannot speak for this generation of NX, but the logic still makes sense.
Have you noticed that the speed limit in the HUD covers up other signs such as pedestrian crossing signs? Its subtle, but you can see the edge of the overwritten sign behind the first if they're different shapes. I believe the below is a stop sign behind the speed limit sign:
