Dashcam from Lexus
The Lexus Dash Cam uses WiFi to pair to the Lexus Dash Cam app in your phone. Medium simple to pair and use. Camera is always recording and then overwriting the data on the SD chip. When paired you can open the app and browse the files, download any you wish to post to social media or a police report. If you press the Action hard button on the Dash Cam it will save that event and protect it from the overwrite process. Driving through a Holiday Light display or National Park Scenic road? Press Action on the camera to preserve the footage. Find the footage in the app under Adventure. The difficulty is that our use of Apple Car Play / Android Auto also uses the WiFi connection and the phone cannot connect to both simultaneously. Not really a hardship, you are not driving and watching the Dash Cam Live View anyway, right? To access the Dash Cam and browse the files just open the car's Menu and then Bluetooth and devices, tap on your phone's name. You should see the bottom of the three sliders turned on indicating your phone is connected by WiFi. Press the upper slider to switch the phone calls to Bluetooth and the Wifi will now be off. Open the Lexus Dash Cam app and then the phone's settings/WiFi. You will now see the same Lexus WiFi network name you saw when you paired the camera.
Thank you mcomer. This is exactly the type of info I am interested in. So let me give you my scenario and let me know if something like this would work for me. I’m exclusively on Apple CarPlay. I use it for navigation and music when I’m driving. While I’m driving, I have no intention of pairing my phone to the dash cam. I just need to record. When I’m home and parked in the garage is when I would disconnect my phone from the car and access the recorded videos if needed.
Also with the existing 12V issues, can this be totally powered off when I am not driving.
In this case, would this work for me.
thanks in advance for the techy info.
