I do like the notion that a fender bender means a ceramic coating is no good. Very creative.
Fender bender and pay to re-coat again. Anyway just my .02. Not a fan. Never had paint problems. If Lexus paint is substandard I’m not surprised. I’m trying to love the NX. I’m sure costing a good thing thing when done correctly.

Do you recall what System X product was used? I'm guessing "Chrystal" as that would be the product that would last up to 3 years. Also, is your car garaged?
I ask this because I found a local detailer to who wants to use System X "diamond" on my new NX. He will do paint decontamination, paint correction and polish before applying the ceramic coating. This particular System X product is suppossed to last for 9 years! Total cost is also $1,000.

Take everything posted on this thread with a big grain of salt. Let's see this is the Internet and my dog can talk.

Paint is better now. There are various ceramic coatings; some are better than others. A key part of ceramic coating is preparation.

Peace and Good Ceramics

YMMV,

I have always just used Meguires Carnauba wax a couple times a year.

My 10 year old cars look like new.

Can't beat the price but it does take a little work.

YMMV

I'll bet they do look like new. 2 waxes a year would pretty much be all the protection one needs. Good for you! Unfortunately, for me those washing and waxing days are over. Now I'm just trying to find a car wash that won't ruin the ceramic coating and damage the paint on my new NX 350h!

I've never understood why a brand new car needs decontamination and correction?

These NX's travel a long way in overseas containers and then sit at seaside ports for awhile before being put on rail cars that wind through what's been called the "underbelly" of the the American industrial complex, i.e. railroad yards, before being loaded on to trucks. So the cars see a lot of miles, not odometers miles, but miles nonetheless. In fact its 6,400 miles between Tahara, Aichi Japan and the midwestern U.S. - and that's as the crow flies! Dealers, of course, clean the vehicles but damage can occur even in that process depending on how they are cleaned. The point is, you don't want to ceramic coat over all the impurities gathered during the transportation process. It's not like you are taking possession of these vehicles as they roll off the assembly line.

Gets dirty in transit, dealer damages the finish while cleaning/detailing. May be sanding and buff marks done by the dealer or at the factory. Many reasons. It is a giant myth that a brand new car has flawless paint this almost never happens.

WOW, My washing and waxing days are NOT over and I am pretty darn old. Rinseless wash and wax is pretty easy. But another forum member mentioned Meguairs; I like using it also. I put ceramic on all my cars too.

YMMV,

I used this on my Lexus and Audi - https://www.meguiars.com/professiona...coating-m88800

It is impossible to mess up and very easy, they been on both cars I think from May and perfect. All I do is maintain with ceramic quick detailer.

1) Wash the car with iron removal or dawn soap
2)Clay bar if you feel dirt on paint areas
3) Polish if you like (optional) if new
4) Apply, it says 1 coat but you can do as long as within 3 hours or so.
I put it on wheels windows and everything, works great and a lot videos to show you as well, but super easy.

Everything tends to get better as it is refined and advanced. I tend to believe that even auto paint today has made advances and is better than is was in the past ( 10, 20, 30, 40 ...years ago"

You seem pretty adamant that paint is worse, so I assume you have some validating data that you could share ? i remember some 65 paint of a Ford Fairlane that wasn't so good and even further back a 1951 Black Chevy that didn't have the best paint.

Paint on a Toyota/Lexus from about 1971-2008-ish was stellar, very high quality of application and chip resistant. The enviro friendly paints used now are generally soft and whatever process they use to promote adhesion is poor. Not all new cars have this problem I'm taking Toyota/Lexus. To be clear Lexus is hardly alone my Tesla has soft paint I have PPF or it would have rock chips all over the hood and bumper.

Paint on my 2000 ES300 is far better, paint on my late 80's early 90's Toyota's is superior in every way. Very hard clear coat, ship resistant, very little orange peel. Incredible paint quality.

Keep in mind that there was a shift throughout the industry away from superior solvent based paints to water based for environmental reasons. Cost cutting as well over the years resulted in reduced paint thickness, quicker paint application processes, less buffing out of imperfections in paint on factory floor too. But Lexus now uses a self healing paint now that when exposed to warm sunlight it will 'flow' and reduce minor 'swirl' scratches from the surface.

Another good video from some experts in the field. Explaining some details from the 'good 'ol days' when quality and luxury in cars was different then now. They discuss paint around 7:30 time stamp

What did you end up doing or using?

I saw this for sale on eBay with them showing the price off HendrickLexus — see pic collage below/1st pic.
But then I checked Bell Lexus which was discounted 82% — see 2nd pic.
Has anyone ever used this OEM/Lexus Paint Protection/Ceramic Coating?
Did it work? — it has a 4-yr guarantee.
Appreciate any helpful advice — Thanks in advance

BELOW from Bell Lexus:

Heavily discounted — has anyone used this product?
