Looking for a way to keep stock headunit and add android auto to it. Stock unit has the Lexus nav, which has proven to be unreliable in the year we have had the car. I've seen a few options online, but not a lot of reviews. Any suggestions for something that works well?
Have the dealer/service center run your VIN and see if your car qualifies for the software upgrade to enable carplay/android auto. It's supposed to be for 2018's and up.

Has something changed? Last I knew in the US you can only get Apple Carplay as a software ugrade, there is no Android auto. This is why I plan on switching back to Iphone with the next release, as OP said the stock nav is just questionable at best sometimes.

I'd rather get a tincan, string and a paper map than switch to an IPhone SO if there is not some magic software upgrade I will be back to the add on boxes.

Take my advice with a grain of salt as my 2016 doesn't qualify at all for either and I had to use those aftermarket interface modules but this Lexus dealer website is now updated to say both Carplay (separate link) and Android Auto are available to specific models and model years.
