35k Service Decarbonization Highly Recommended
My 2019 NX F-Sport is up for the 35k service. I know this is basically a tire rotation. My dealer says I need to also do a decarbonization that will keep the buildup away that is common with my vehicle. And I’ll also need an oil change because they have to drain the oil to do the service.
Is this a bunch of bull?

While I do believe in carbon cleaning, at 35k miles on the NX engine that is direct AND port injected, it is very premature and not necessary in my mind.
We have a ‘19 NX with 27k on it and my wife only puts about 10mi on it per day and I do about the same with my ‘14 GS w/ 77k. In order to help alleviate carbon build up I change the oil in each of them every 3k miles with full synthetic and always use the highest octane at the pump.
Considering our low daily mileage we alternate the cars we take on our monthly road trips and I ensure each time they are driven like a bat out of hell to help burn off whatever may be sticking around.
I wouldn’t even consider carbon cleaning our NX or GS engine until 100k miles even with limited driving around town again mainly because of the direct and port injection systems. Unless of course they will show you substantial carbon build up with a borescope. Doubt they will. Therefore I would just stick to the schedule.

All Lexus dealers offer this service because of carbon build-up problems the IS250's (all years) are having being they are direct injection only. So unless you own one of these, they are just making money off you.
