NX Battery Issues
This is just FYI. I recently had a variety of problems that turned out to be connected to a dying battery, but I didn't know that at first. The first symptom was the rear hatch intermittently failing to close for a couple of months. After punching the hatch mounted button a few times it would close. I thought there was a problem with the hatch sensor. Then one time it wouldn't open at all. I just heard two beeps. When I tried to start the car the instrument panel went black. Same two beeps. I thought maybe the battery was discharged so hooked up my charger overnight. Hatch opened next morning. But only once. Realized battery was dying; wouldn't hold a charge. Called AAA. They hot shot it and I took off for Auto Zone. As I pulled into their lot the steering acted up, almost like manual. Figured I needed fluid. Got the new battery installed and searched the web for where to add fluid. You don't. It's electrical. As soon as I started backing up the steering was like new. All of that, the hatch, the steering was because of dying battery. Probably other things I didn't notice too. This was the original battery from 6 years ago. That's about how long they last before they die. Hope this helps others.
1) Was that oem batter user-serviceable? In other words, did it have caps that could be unscrewed or popped off to allow you to view/maintain the fluid level?
2) If it was user-serviceable, did you, ever remove the cap(s) to evaluate the level and/or refill?
Most people are not aware that if the battery IS user-serviceable (and most of the one's I've owned were) you need to check the level in the cells - perhaps at least once every 2 months. It is an easy thing to check. IF any of the levels are low, while the car battery is fully charged (i.e. perhaps 10-20 minutes after a long drive with motor shut off) you would refill with DISTILLED WATER ONLY. Not an expensive cost, not too complicated. BUT, this could help preserve the life of your battery!

Hi all,
I am a Lexus Master Technician and I am creating a series of maintenance tutorial videos covering the 2015-2021 Lexus NX models.
Here is a video showing how to replace the battery.
Please hit me up with suggestion on what other things you would like to see in the video comments.
Cheers!
