Nav Screen Brightnes Switch Underpass
Been browsing these forums for a few years to help family members with various RX and NX related items. Finally wasn't able to find a solution and so here I am.
My sister has a 2016 NX200t and she today asked me about something I have noticed when driving the car in the past.
When driving during the day, particularly a winter day when it is gray and rainy or in the evenings, when you drive under an overpass, or you go around a shaded corner of the road, the dash and navigation screen will dim down for a split second, then pop right back to full brightness.
It is rather annoying as it flips back and forth within a very short period of time. In areas with lots of trees or many overpasses it is a continual bright-dim loop.
I haven't been in the car for awhile, but I am nearly positive the headlamps are not on or not turning on (stalk in AUTO mode....but there is a delay in the headlights turning on) when this happens. So I don't think the navigation system is switching between day mode and night mode. I think all that is happening is that the system remains in day mode but the backlight is just getting turned down and up as this happens.
She and I find this very annoying as there are many overpasses in the area.
Can this be stopped and if so, how? Ideally it is a nice feature for things like tunnels and such, but if there is even a way to put a delay on the dim/bright switch of 5-10 seconds I think the problem would be solved.

It happens occasionally with our NX but not often. It takes just the proper amount of clouds plus an overpass to see the issue and we don’t hit the proper conditions frequently.

You have a light sensor on the dash and it has a 5-second delay before it reacts to light conditions. When your nav screen goes dim, it's the car thinking it’s night time. You’re headlight and taillights are coming on as well. Want to test it? Put a piece of paper or something over the little dark-colored dome sensor on the dash (near the hood, inside the cab, behind the screen). When you do this, you will see the screen dim.

I noticed the dim/bright Nav display going through some "long" underpass too, but it did not bother me, as I kind of figure out why. Too much automation may not be a good thing
As for the 5-sec delay, it may depend on how fast you drive too ! When coming out of a dark parkade, as the NX is on Auto, headlamp was ON, after about 50 m they are turned OFF, just to add some notes on this delay.

The dome and your screen are directly connected to the auto headlights. The only customization you have on this would be to cover the dome then go into display setting and turn up the brightness. You need to cover the dome first for you have a daytime brightness and a nighttime brightness.
Can you send me a pic of the vertical dashes you are speaking of?

Assuming that the vehicle has a Nav system go into the "Menu" and select "Display". There are 3 adjustments select the top one to turn the screen off. To turn it on, press any button on the audio panel or on the Remote Touch.
The second option is to turn day mode on or off and the last is to adjust the screen display.
You will have to experiment to find out what works best for you and or your sister.

Appreciate all the replies.
I think she is going to try turning down the auto-headlamp sensitivity. Though as mentioned, I suspect the auto headlamp sensitivity is probably separate from the nav screen.
She did send me a video this morning, typical fall/winter cloudy day, going under an underpass. Let me see if I can share it...
