Are you missing a zero?
Seriously, I thought if it is the synthetic SAE 0W-20 oil, then the typical oil change is after 16,000 km (10K miles), as confirmed by my dealer when I asked (typical 8K km non-synthetic).

Lol I didn't. People told me to change the factory engine oil after the first 2000km. After that we can do the regular interval oil change.

In US the first oil change is at 5000 miles. The second is at 10000, and then every 10K.

5,000 mile service does not include an oil change

Yes, the mechanics that profits from these unnecessary oil changes certainly do recommends 3000 mile oil change. Unless you track your car or drive under extreme conditions, 3000 miles oil changes is not necessary.
Some think of it as cheap insurance but think about all the oil we are wasting with these low mileage oil changes. As far as new car break in oil, most car manufacturers do not use them anymore with the exception of high performance models. Some think they will remove the engine's metal shavings with frequent oil changes, modern engines are build to a tighter tolerance, there is a lot less metal shavings and the oil filters are bigger now a days to increase the filtering capacity.
Some say frequent oil change can actually be bad for you engine, new oil takes a while to break in and perform at its best. Once the oil breaks in, leaving the oil in there until it is near it max. capacity to hold contaminates, than change it. Under normal driving condition, there is probably still some life to the oil after 10000 miles.
