Default Rain Sensing Wipers

Hi all!

While helping my buddy research the NX300 it appears that the only way to get rain sensing wipers is to purchase the non F-Sport and upgrade to the Luxury package, is that correct?

From an aesthetics perspective, he prefers the F-Sport, so he would rather get the F-Sport model than the non F-Sport model, but he could not believe that Lexus would not offer rain sensing wipers on the F-Sport model.

That concurs with my understanding. We were a bit frusrated by that as well. The luxury package also adds leather seating surfaces. It wasn’t worth it to us, plus the dealer didn’t have any configured with that package so it would have required a special order - thus reducing our bargaining position. It is my guess that they purposely de-content the NX line to keep it from competing with their number one seller, the RX. Both of our previous RXs and our current ES have the rain sensing option so the fact that it is hard to come by clearly feels intentional.

I know that there are numerous available/unavailable features between versions available in both our countries (Canada and USA) but I can confirm that I have a canadian F-Sport with rain detection feature ... but than again we can't have the foot sensor opening for the hatchback but we have HUD ... go figure !!!

When I bought my NX, I was specifically looking for one that did not have rain-sensing wipers. I had them on my IS, and they were terrible. Sometimes they'd go super fast in a drizzle, but go slow in pouring rain. They were rarely going a the speed I would have set with variable intermittent wipers. I never want to see them on any future car.

No issue with rain detection on my NX300 2018. Got a IS for couple of weeks while NX was in the shop (HUD display problem) and on the IS (2017) it wasn't performing (detecting correctly) as good as on the 2018 NX... my 2 cents ..

I have had good luck with our rain sensing wipers and like the feature. They have definitely improved since the 2004 model though. They are definitely not perfect though and occasionally wipe for no reason at all. But overall, their pros outweigh the cons from our experience.
