I just installed some LED lights under hood for cases when I need to work under the hood (like check oil levels, replace engine filters, checking fuses, battery, etc...) I thought it's pretty helpful. I'm including links to items I used to make it.

Very nice! I planned to do this as well, but instead of a regular on/off switch I'll be tapping into the hood open/closed switch so it will turn on automatically.

I wonder if I can just hot glue that under the hood

 

I used double sided tape to the hood and it've been over a week with hot weather in California (around 85 degrees at highest now) and it seems to be ok for now. Not sure how it will hold up once temperature reach 100, we'll see..

Works on any vehicle and takes seconds to setup. They have a newer LED version too.

 

So, what happens if your car breaks down on a secluded highway at night because of a dead battery (but you don't exactly know it's a dead battery)?

Or...what if you have to disconnect your battery because you are working on something under the hood that requires you to disconnect it?

Either way, you may have no lighting using the above solutions to troubleshoot.

This is where a good old-fashion flashlight (torch) comes in handy. Any portable, battery-powered lighting system would be best. I keep a flashlight in my car. I also have a portable tire inflator which has a built-in flashlight. Finally, I carry an inexpensive light shown below that has a hook that allows me to hang it anywhere...
