Default Engine break in

For those of you with several thousand miles on your car have you noticed more sense of power and torque? I've only got 110 miles on mine and the engine seems fairly under powered, especially under 2000 rpm. My salesman said the engine doesn't need breaking in (wrong!), but I'm being pretty gentle with it.

Yes, I have noticed the response and power is more lively recently. Have 5k km on it now.

I can't comment on the more power, as I have a 300h and haven't really noticed a difference. But, according to the manual there is only a small break-in period, and most car manufacturers now days claim no break-in period at all, things are not like there were back in he 70's and 80's, things have changed, they are doing a lot of the "Break-in" at the factory before the car ships now. Doesn't mean it isn't a good idea to still do some on your own, or follow the recommendations though, it certainly won't hurt anything.

I'm typically easy on my cars for the first 1,000 miles. I had a Tacoma that had a really tight engine until 2,000 miles, so assuming the NX will be similar.

Don't forget that "break in" can sometimes apply to other parts than the engine only. Gearbox, transmission case, wheel bearings, etc come to mind...
