In my other thread about retorifts, the topic of retrofitting the BSM system appeared, so I decided to start a new thread to organize the knowledge on this subject
@conrado I agree! The hijack of your Parking Sensors thread is partly my fault! My apologies!! I should have suggested starting a new thread on the BSM retrofit topic.
@TomekR Sorry for the delay in responding! I have the BSM’s partly retrofitted to my car. Still the door mirrors and door wiring harnesses to do. On first power-up without the door mirrors fitted it showed a malfunction on the instrument cluster information display and logged 2 fault codes, C1AB0 & C1ABE. I turned off the BSM dashboard control switch and the instrument cluster information display returned to normal. I’ve left the dashboard control switch turned off and had no negative effects with the car.
Hi gents,
Yeah, good idea with the new thread, indeed.
@IanS62 thanks for the info, it's good to know that switching BSM off makes it 'invisible' to the car. Collecting the used parts needed is not that hard except for the mirrors, which are hard to find and very expensive.
That's why I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you manage to launch chinese mirrors.
Ending section of the attached document describes sensor mounting validation, which scares me a bit :-) I thought just to mount it somehow and the calibration would do the rest.
On this movie radar can be seen
Btw, I placed an order on Amayama and they cancelled the multi-switch (with BSM button) with a note "Supply restrictions". Maybe we don't know that the buttons are also used in missiles ;-)
Luckily, used ones are available on Ovoko.
I have one more question to you both: the official installation guide says "Do not drop the blind spot monitor sensor. If it is dropped, replace it with a new one."
As we buy them used ones, they could be broken, so I think of checking them in 'fast mode' just by connecting them without mounting i.e. disconnect existing wire harnesses no 1, connect the one for BSM with sensor connected and then in Techstream check them. The connector is very easy to access, just under the floor, and no need for bumper removal. Also the button multi switch could be connect to the vehicle without mounting, I guess (seems that relevant wiring could be access from the side).
What do you think ?
@conrado and @IanS62 you never mentioned RCTA buzzer.
Because it is not needed in your scenario (vehicle without parking sensors) ?
Also, strange thing, it is not listed on the BSM diagram on Amayma.
I has recently connected radars for a moment and immediately BSM slave detected buzzer is missing.
Maybe someone knows what is the part number for any version, I gone through seven seas ;-) (dozens of diagrams) and have never found it.
The only thing I know by now is that it is different then parking sensor buzzer, and should be mounted in similar area (see the attachments, P49 is parking sensor buzzer, P42 RCTA buzzer).

Buzzer number is 89747-52010 it can be found in "switch & relay & computer" diagram. This buzzer was used in many toyotas so it can be bought almost everywhere.
I think the mirror ecus are required for the bsm to work.
I fitted the metal panels, installed the radars and connected the wires. Now the system no longer allows me to turn on bsm. Previously without fitted modules it was only blinking.
Nevertheless I have the modules, just need to wait for the connectors and sockets to arrive.
I will inform you about the progress in a bit.

Yes, please post your updates, photos are also very welcome
Your car has all connectors from factory, right ?
Which connectors you mean, on the wire harness?
As far I understand, @adrian96 will be modifying the door wire harness so that it can be plugged in to mirror ecu.
Plus, BSM wire.

I mean the plugs next to the rear wheel arches, in the trunk. Door wire harness is not something that I am afraid of, but adding wires to the back of the car sounds like a challenge

(Now I got you)
Maybe there is no need to add anything. Mine already has proper wire harness: the below picture shows which connector is the key thing
and next one shows how many wires could be there
I sort of proved that - I connected the newly bought BSM-capable left and right wire harness to his connector and it's counterpart o the right side (less wires there, btw) and radars to them and radars were visible in Techstream.
btw
one the 1st picture there is unused connector, I don't know what for...

Thanks for pictures! My right connector has only 2 wires so I guess it's not enough but left connector looks like yours
BTW I can see that you added additional sound deadeing in a trunk, is there big difference after ?

Well, indeed it could be not enough, see what is in mine on the right side (smaller connector, but still - many wires)
btw
the connector is on wire harness 82183-78010 (SMART ENTRY-3 BUTTON TYPE(POWER BACK DOOR BUTTON)
> BTW I can see that you added additional sound deadening in a trunk, is there big difference after ?
I don't want to spoil this treat, but in general - I'm disappointed: even though my trunk is fully covered, still there is a lot of noise from front wheels, side windows.
I can write more, if you want...
@adrian96 and @conrado
you both seem to have a lot of experience in wire harness modification.
I thought of
adding purple wire to the door wire harness from the grey connector (connected inside vehicle) to the female mirror connector
and making 'adapting' wire (yellow on the below picture) from the female mirror connector to added mirror ecu right connector
