Default Tips for storing sunglasses

Hello! First of all, I really like the general tone in the forum and really enjoy reading through the threads.

I recently bought my 2018 Lexus NX300h and really like it so far.

However, one thing that I really miss from my old VW passat is a place to store my sunglasses. In tje passat it had a compartment up by the rear view mirror.

I have tried storing them in the "big" storage in the mid console but thats very inconvienient for accessing them while driving (due to the USB connectors causing wires to take up that space.

How have other owners solved this? Any inspiration?

Welcome to the club!!

You are not alone in missing the overhead sunglasses storage compartment, or storage in general in the NX.
The “designated” sunglasses storage bin is underneath the mirror in front of center console but it is oddly shaped and inconvenient.
Since I have the phone charger tray underneath the center console, I ended up ordering an OEM tray that goes there if you don’t have a charger tray and it was pretty cheap on eBay — see below pic.
I put it on the left side of glove compartment which seems to be easier for me to grab than underneath the charging tray.
I’ve also looked at all kinds of sunglasses holders that clip on your sun visor as an optional choice to keep your sunglasses.
I might look into that again if I get tired of grabbing them from the glove compartment.

Glad to hear Im not alone in missing this. However, would of course have wished that I have missed the obvious perfect solution.
an extra "clip on" solution for the visor might be something to look for.
Thanks,

Did you ever try to use the designated place below the mirror? Your sunglasses have to be a certain shape to fit. A couple pair of mine did fit and I do have a pair in there and keep a bulky pair in glove compartment in the tray mentioned in my first reply.
Here are some examples of clips I’ve found and clip-on cases as well

All of these clips are from eBay except first one
All clips are from eBay except first one
Both from eBay
Both from eBay

A word of caution.

Many years ago my 2 friends got into an accident. They weren't going that fast, but the impact was such that the 1980-ish Buick was totalled.

The only bodily damage was the passenger (not wearing his seat belt had to get stitches in his forehead because his head moved forward enough to hit the add-on accessory mirror clipped to the visor (via metal clips). Years ago, having a mirror on your visor was a BIG accessory. Today, I would imagine that most cars have this.

Lesson to be learned...I will NEVER EVER EVER put anything except for a few sheets of paper in either visor. I'm not even sure whether or not a few sheets of paper could cause harm. But I certainly wouldn't mount/clip/attach any eyeglass holder up there.

No, I didn’t mean the rear view mirror — I meant this below:

The compartment below this mirror is oddly shaped and doesn’t fit bulky sunglasses, but that’s what it’s supposed to be for and I can fit a pair of mine in there and put my oversized ones on tray I mentioned above in glove compartment.

LexMan has made me think twice about the clips and besides, there’s limited headroom as it is so not sure if the clip is a great fix — but I can always put on passenger side sun visor.

Haha thanks for that... I have checked that compartment, my feeling was that it was way to shallow to fit the glasses. Most likely my "pilots model" sunglasses are too bulky... Ill have a gp at that though... thanks again

The compartment goes underneath the leather “armrest” towards the touch pad so you can lay your sunglasses flat on the bottom and still place the mirror on top.
My Wayfarer and aviator style sunglasses can each fit but not both together. My Oakley style bulky ones don’t fit - those are the ones I keep on tray in glove compartment.
Yes, I have that many sunglasses, depending on my mood and what I’m wearing 🤣😎

I ended up ordering one of the clips bc they offered a discount on eBay and I want to see if it’ll fit on the grab handle. If not, I didn’t waste too much money and can ask another Lexus owner if they want it.

Took a test drive today and as you said, they fit perfectly! The only small complaint is that its not super easy to get that mirror back in the correct place while driving. With a bit of practice Im sure Ill master it though!

Thanks for that tip!

Oh Great — problem solved 👍 You mean like a stubby cup holder?

Care to share a pic of what you’ve found that works and a link for anyone interested?
