I am interested in adding the dashcam. I want it hard wired to the fuse box. I notice the fuse box has a cover and the gap between the cover and the fuse itself is too close. I am afraid I cannot close/use the fuse box cover anymore after the dashcam installation due to the dashcam wire. How do guys take care of this? Are you still able to close the fuse box cover?
Nope, I did the same thing, added 2 wire splices for the exact same thing and the cover cannot fit anymore. But I don't care. Cover is in the glove box in case I need to identify a fuse. So, you're not alone.
I didn't want to start a new thread so I'll just post this here for anyone who wishes to go the same route. My Dongar Technologies dashcam power adapter came today and I installed it within 10 minutes. Below are installation images with caption for reference. I hope this helps someone.
*These instructions are specifically for my wife's 2021 Lexus NX 300.
Take note of the cover assembly clips. The small cover (#1) pops out by prying from the very top and then pulling towards you (directly outwards). Note how the two clips insert forward (pushed towards the windshield) upon reinstallation. The big cover (#2) then slides down along the windshield. Note how the clips insert upwards for reinstallation. Reinstallation is the reverse of the removal process.
The Dongar Technologies adapter basically taps into your mirrors power supply. The connection marked #3 is where you insert the car's connector (white) and #4 is the end that you insert into the car's receptacle (black).
The car's connector (white) is marked #5.
Push on this tab (#6) and pull straight up to remove.
Just plug and play as described previously mentioned (#4 into #7 and #8 into #3).
To test, plug in the supplied USB cable (#9) and start the car. The dashcam should have power.
Another indicator that you've plugged in everything correctly is the USB end of the adapter will light up blue (#10).
Tuck the receiving end of the adapter (#11) behind the black harness (#12) that belongs to the adaptive cruise control's camera. This way the adapter holds itself along the windshield and tucked away up top.
The USB part of the adapter comes with a double-sided 3M adhesive. Attach it to the top of the adaptive cruise control's camera (#13) to prevent it from dangling and rattling.
I chose to run the USB cable outside of the hole (#14), but you can also run it along the sides of the big cover (#15) depending on where you decide to mount your dashcam.
These are the remaining parts included in the package that I did not use. It also comes with a USB Type-C and a USB Mini. The USB Micro is what my dashcam needed so it's the one I used. The pry tools are not needed to remove the covers. A sticker is also included.
