Fellas (and ladies?) be careful traveling through warwick if you have tinted windows, the Warwick Police are on the lookout for vehicles with tint. I just recieved a citation today. I have 20% all around except windshield, no fine but i have a court date in jan where i need to prove i did something about it.

just a heads up so you can avoid the headache

Warwick and West Warwick police are on the lookout. My brother has been pulled over a few times for the tint on his windows on his Cobalt and just last week in West Warwick Though my brother has been lucky he just plays dumb and has only got warnings about it so far.

the worst part is, the tint laws were enacted in 1993-94, when a state trooper was shot during a traffic stop of a car with dark tinted windows.

i know this, i realize some dint can be a hazard to officers...but when my car is parked in the shade, and you can stand 30ft behind it and see the rearview mirror through the rear window, how is it that a police cruiser's massive floodlight won't light my cabin up without a problem.

the main reason i brought up the trooper being shot, is he was in the center median of rt.95 just south of providence toward warwick talking to my father's best friend, who at the time was a trooper (now retired). my father's best friend heard the trooper raido in the traffic stop, heard 3 shots over the radio, and then initiated one of the longest high speed pursuits in RI history, followed by a gun fight in which one suspect was killed, the other apprehended.

i know a cop doesn't know that when they're pulling me over, but please, you're telling me a black lexus, leaving NE Tech on post road, with 20% tint that you can clearly see through in sunlight is your biggest priority when looking cars with tint?

I think the rear windows are allowable for tinting but the front driver and passenger windows and windshield are not supposed to be tinted at all. I could be wrong not sure though.

technically all windows should be able to transmit 70% of visible light, with no tint on the windshield allowed. That being said, I think it's kind of beat that I got knocked for 20% when there's people I know who have 20 on the windshield, and 15 all around with 5 on the sunroof (black 5gen maxima with black int. btw) that have never been bothered for it. It's pretty lame.
