Anyone ever file a claim for damage from a NYC pothole?

A crater-sized pothole caused a visible bend to one of my rear rims.

Do I have to pay out of pocket before filing a claim or would a dealer estimate suffice?

Car still drives straight!

where was this pothole?

I'm not sure on the process but this scares me every time I drive as there's been so many nasty potholes from all the salt put on the roads from this horrible weather we've been having lately.

There is a process on the E how website to follow on filing a claim in NYC for Pothole damage. Don't know if its up to date but at least its a starting point for you. Good luck, it sounds like its a real pain to do.

 

Usually you got to prove the city negligence to file a claim. Like the city knew about it and the city did nothing to fix it.

Yes, I think you're right. In fact, I think there may have even been roadwork in the area, where I can claim some type of "caused and created" standard, where the area was not properly protected. But for as large as the pothole was (felt), I can't believe I didn't see it. I should've stopped right there to inspect and take photos, but I stopped a few blocks away. :|
