Definitely out of warranty at 206k miles!

There's no idle adjustment?

Damn!!

Idle adjustment is done electronically not mechanically. At 206K that throttle body really held on well. You might as well just search for a lower mileage unit. You can always send it to me and I can repair it at my shop. No charge to you just pay shipping to and from. I will remove the components clean them up and re-assemble it and ship it back. Do let me know if this helps.

I'll have the dealership look at the tb...see if they can adjust the idle speed. If they can't, then new tb and then send the old one to you. Many thanks again for your assistance!

And the water pump has 206k on it too! Are these known to last?

Np. Glad I could help. As for the water pump the housing is an aluminum housing however the rotor vane is made out of plastic and over time can wear down or even break if that happens your motor will over heat, If your water pump pulley seizes your timing belt can snap depending on force etc...

If your water pump is that old I would recommend replacing the following components for assurance

Timing belt
Water pump
Thermostat
upper/lower radiator hoses
cam seals
crank seal
idler pulleys (2)
timing belt tensioner
serpentine belt

This will give you piece of mind that nothing can go wrong with the internals of the motor. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask.

I took it into the dealership. The high idle turned out to be an improperly installed TPS sensor. I had complained about this some time ago (it was over a year ago) about the bad installation but the tech (who was let go) swore up and down that it was done correctly.

The other tech today measure the voltage rating - 27 volts at the TPS. It's supposed to be about 14. Readjusted now and everything is running very happily. Thank goodness it wasn't the throttle body...!

phew!

I have a 2008 LS460 w/ 17000 miles. It vibrates excessively from the seats when it's on idle with gear on drive rpm around 500 but stops whenever rmp goes up to 700 (ex. turning on the ac, seat heater/cooler, headlights) so I always have the seat cooler on! What could it be?

Awesome, Glad to hear it worked out. There is a spring in the tps sensor that has to be installed under a specific tension if not you get false readings. Hopefully they didnt charge you again for this since it was there mistake to begin with.

Youngie,

Did you purchase your car new or used ? also are you aware of any tsb's done to the vehicle ? reason why I am asking is most LS460 models especially your year have valve spring problems where the spring breaks and the motor drops a valve. In order to repair this the entire motor and driveline must be removed; most cases the entire long block is replaced. If this has been done to yours then there might be something from the engine bay, trans tunnel that may be vibrating against the body which you end up feeling. Not trying to worry you; however the good news is you have an 08 with 17,000 miles on it. I would take it to the dealership and request that a senior level technician or diagnostic specialist ride with you to confirm the symptoms. Once all this is documented at the dealer; this problem has to be addressed no matter what.

Youngie,

Keep me updated on whats going on. Thanks and good luck.

Camelflage,

If you are confident in taking timing belts off and installing them then I would say go for it. If this is going to be your first timing belt removal I would caution you not too, Once you have the timing set at TDC and remove the belt, You have to make note of the VVT-I pulley, it has free motion of a few degrees that it can move, worst case scenario if you install the belt on when the pulley accidentally moved in either direction you can have piston to valve contact. This will cause your friend more grief in the end. If you still are going ahead with the install take your time and once the belt is on rotate the crank clockwise two full turns to make sure there is no valve to piston contact. If there is you have installed the belt incorecctly. I would also at this point replace the timing belt, water pump, thermostat since your already in there.

If you decide to go on with the install; and have questions or concerns keep me up to date with pms I have notifications on my blackberry and can repond back within minutes. Good luck

If you had your timing belt recently replaced you might be off by a tooth or two. If your timing belt is old then I would check the cam and crank sensors. See if the wires are cut or pinched. Keep me posted.

Tach,

Getting a PO141 error code which says the O2 sensor is bad. The sensors for bank 1, are they 4 wire sensors? (2 blacks, 1 blue, 1 white) I have a sensor already, part number 89465-50150, but the dealer says 89465-30410.

What's the main difference? If it's wire length, can I splice onto the old connector?
