If you recall in December I was planning a detail event which I had to cancel due to not having the experts available to teach us. So as the spring weather sloooooowly comes in and the thoughts of Carlisle are out there I have 2 options i had discussed with Jeff who was going to be one of my experts.
Option 1: I will have to check with Smitty but we can make the spring kickoff event include this and I can haul my stuff up there with Jeff providing his oversight.
Option 2: I can hold "Wrench Fest 09" to include this exercise but have it a little closer to Carlisle dates so some folks can learn the art of detailing while others wrench on their cars.
RolxuSC400 thats a great ideal. Maybe we can have a Wrench Fest 09 like the beginning or middle of April and then have the detail meet like the 2 weeks before or the weekend before Carlise. We can have Wrench Fest in enough time to help with those mods before and do nothing but modding that weekend and then do the detailing later.
I was thinking for the Detail weekend I could have it at my house for the guys in MD and you can do yours at your house for the guys in VA and someone in NJ and NY could have one. That way everyone wouldnt have to drive so far to get to one spot and we'll have more than enough room to do it. Just a thought.
Smitty - reason i suggested one or the other is I have to secure my leads for the detailing portion and if they only have to take only 1 weekend to train/demo to folks it prolly would be better on their wallets. Being selfish I know how to keep a car clean but not resurrect it from the dead and was looking for some tips and technique.
I do not want to hijack the BBQ though not sure a bunch of folks with buffers and such is a wise thing with alcohol and <insert smiley of dude with pipe>
I will have the Wrench Fest like around same time as last year though pressure is on for same type of weather i was wondering if folks thought we should stick with tradition and only do that or add the detail component as well.
Last year held it like April 13th or 14th I can't recall exactly and was at my home in VA. I will likely shoot for round the same time again this year. There were approximately 20ish people and we started at 8:30am and ran til 8:30 or 9pm.
my paint feels rough... i took it to get detailed but it really did'nt help much... it's either i need to re-clear coat it or wetsand but i'm not sure how i could tell...

i do.
how rough is it? have you tried to clay bar it?
truthfully your car is to new to have any damage to the clear coat to warrant having to respray. ihmo wet sanding/buffing should be your last resort.
give it a good wash with blue dawn dish washing soap. then clay bar it. then rewax it. then let me know how it looks. if its still rough. ill try to help you out.
gonna start zaino-ing my car tomorrow. whoo hoo! i have 3 days till the show im in. hopefully i can get 5 layers on with is crappy weather. lol
oh yeah answer to poll. i would try to do either as long as the location is in VA/DC/MD.
I agree with Ultra there's really no reason to wetsand sounds like its just contaminents in the paint. There are a few levels of cut in clay bars I think I only have the mild. You have to be careful using it to make sure u constantly kneed it to move the dirt away from the finish so your not scratching the paint and rememebr to run lots of lube on the paint surface so the bar glides easily over the paint.
I would do 2 separte dates, this way if some people can't make one they can make the other. Just saying this because I have 6 weddings to attend this summer. UUUUggg Id much rather be wrenching the car with you guys.
woah that's this all about? wrench fest & detailing?
Last year I held the first Wrench Fest to the tune of about 20-25ish people hangin out working on their cars and enjoying an early BBQ at my home. The biggest efforts were on the IS's with spring/strut installs and there were a number of other jobs being performed as well. We had tech people on hand and lots of extra hands pitching in where necessary.
The detailing piece was something I thought of and have always been into but don't really know how to bring a car back from neglect just how to maintain it and ready it for Concours events IF it has been maintained. There are a few guys on the forum that have the experience and expertise and I was tryin to get them to do a training session and reward them with food.
