Default DC-MD-VA T-Belt Avgs

Sorry if this thread/question has been beaten to death but I think its time, for my own sanity, to replace the T-Belt. I am getting quotes, of course, all over the board. I went thru Toyota dealers thinking they would be better..they were ALOT more. I know this will not be cheap and dont expect it to be I am just wondering if some of the members from Metro DC area have some ranges and suggestions where i can get a solid work at a good price.

I am hearing:

1. (dealer) Belt and labor ONLY (price 625-650)...EXTRA to do labor for tensioners, seals etc think thats BS since they have everything off already (final price - gulp "they will fill it in later") They said...you dont need to replace anything BUT the T-Belt UNLESS its bad - i thought that the new T-Belt would/could cause stress on older parts and its suggested to replace everything, is that correct?

2. (Dealer) change it all out (price - $795 for labor including labor to do water pump and all other "part labor" but parts NOT included except T-Belt). (BTW this dealer is in PA)

3. Found "OEM" parts online (T-Belt, drive belt, tensioner, pulleys, seals) with Ebay including water pump for $299. Good deal?

FOR Metro DC MEMBERS ONLY - So I am looking at about a $1,000 parts and labor to get this done? Is that accurate/fair amount?

Thanks in advance!

that is insanity.
you forgot to mention the car you were changing the belt on.

you should never pay more than like 600 or so total on a rwd car.
i would also not go to a dealer for that. just any good shop.
buying the belt yourself from a parts store is often a good idea.
but buying one from ebay is kind of sketch, its an important belt!

all you need to change is the belt/pump usually.
tensioners don't go out unless your old belt is actually bad
(and you would definately know if its bad)

Thanks for the reply man.

So its NOT true bout the new belt potentially causing tension on old parts and damaging them? If thats true then I found a shop willing to do it for $500. So your recommendation is ONLY do the T-Belt and waterpump or even see if pump is bad before I make that decision? I was told the following parts should be replaced "while they are in there"

1. idler bearings
2. tensioner bearing
3. crank seal
4. cam seal (2)
5. waterpump

So the above should be done as needed?

Thanks man.

Thanks for the reply. I did search and found them as well as another one in Rockville, LXT Automotive, but I had 2 other questions which were more important, they were:

1. should replace everything (seals, bearings, pump, etc) or just T-Belt
2. whats a reasonable price/range for all this work

I will call them as well as guys in Rockville but I was told that changing the belt and not changing the other pieces is crazy while ur there and the new belt could exert some pressures on the old parts causing premature failure. That was the MAIN question I wanted answered. Will it cause premature failure if I left the old parts?

Default Wow

Due to location and loaner car situation I will try the American Auto Tech. I called them and the quote was pretty good, I am impressed. Once I have the parts I will give them a try. Thanks for the headsup.

always change the pump and the belt, and while theyre in there they will usually let you know what needs to be replaced upon inspection.
even with replacing everything you should still not pay much more.
80% of it is the labor of getting to the belt.

Please share some names as I'm getting ready to change ball joints and outer tie rods along with shocks and springs.
