Don't do it. These cops in NJ like writing tickets for that since its an easy one and no hard work is needed, especially at the beginning and end of the month to raise their ticket count. They mark it as window obstruction.

I was driving an RX400H with FLORIDA plates on the Palisades Pkwy in Jersey, and got pulled over by a Pkwy County Police because of the tint even though it's legal in FL. I had a "Ramsey Lexus, Saddle River, NJ" license plate frame, and because of that, he stopped me and said the reason he pulled me over was for illegal tint on the front windows. I told him the car is registered in FL, but was purchased in NJ! CAUTION: If you have tint on your front windows, and are driving on the Palisades Pkwy, and a cop creeps up behind you, YOU WILL BE PULLED OVER!! :-(
it works...... but not really... they notice no matter what
Exactly, opening the sunroof will let them see YOU inside the car but to think a tinted window is going to appear 'clear' to a cop in a state where NO tint is allowed on it, is just setting yourself up for a headache. There's no way around ZERO tint besides getting a doctors note and that doesn't work much anymore either.
Does this pertain to out of state plates too? I have tags outside Jersey and drive through the state often. Whether it be on the Turnpike, Garden State Pkwy or local streets, I've never been pulled over and I know I've been seen by many cops.
