If I were i nyour area I would definently utilize your shop...The prices are low, I'd price higher and possibly give discounted prices on 1st visit or something...

a detailing shop is not cheap to start i'll tell you that. you can probably make more money by being a mobile detailer instead of opening a shop.

I don't think I would bring my car to a detail shop after my last detail at a shop...wasn't satisfied at all...

but if it's a legit job then those prices aren't that bad...
But gettting scratches out using touch up paint and stuff isn't a rookie job...and hiring someone that knows what they are doing is $$ ... so I don't think you can afford those prices.

Well of COURSE CL members would get a 20% discount for sure :P VIP guests get 50% off ;] I'm doing the building idea. Not renting or anything, buying the entire place out so all I pay are mortgages and stuff like that.

The #1 problem I have right now is money! Of course, it's everyone's problem :P #2 would be location, #3 would be hiring the right personnel, #4 would be getting the word out.

What would you guys want out of the shop? Cleanliness, care, customer satisfaction, etc?

Do you think it's wise to allow people to detail their own cars, at their expense? (Paying for water, and other resources.)

Taking on a detailing business is can get expensive, labor intensive, and it is VERY hard to find even one person who can actually do the work RIGHT...

Turning your business mobile it takes a long time to get some steady business...At $20 dollars a wash your spending money on gas and a great deal of time to get to the destination, a good 1-2 hours to get the job done right..At 20 dollars per car, your profit are minimal..You're more at a loss when you calculate the time spent traveling than doing actual work..Even with 10 cars a day at $20 dollars, the gas prices are going to rape you...

To charge high dollar, you'll definitely need to learn how to use a rotary...It takes some time to learn but it pays for itself, if you don't know how to use a buffer then your pretty much out of business...Anything by hand is not abrasive enough to take out any swirls or powerful enough to create real shine..Learning how to use a machine is where the money is at..Any type of real machine swirl removal would cost at least $200 as this takes at least 5 hours of buffing alone..It is not atypical for some more knowledgable detailers to charge upwards of $55 an hour to $300-500 per car..If your really considering this take some time off and learn to buff with a rotary first...

Like others have mentioned, do your research and plan accordingly if your seriously considering this..Because there are just too many expenses and variables to consider in this business..Chances are you're gonna go either dead broke or dead because your arm just fell off from not learning how to use a rotary..

honestly, i wouldn't go to u simply because u lack experience, and if youre doing all this by hand, first, you wouldnt have an arm, second you wouldnt get out marring and swirls

Honestly, I don't think high quality work can be done at places like these. In the end, people at these places work on a schedule and want to get as much done as possible as opposed to a personal detailer where they can pay attention to details. As I have learned from personal experience, you learn more as you progress and as you work on different cars.

It usually is "cheaper" when you go to places like these but you really get what you pay for. Just my $.02.

Off Topic: Mr Soarer, were you in the LES this past weekend? I think I saw your car in the Municipal Lot.

u really do get what u pay for... u can pay a place liek that 125-150 and have all the product washed off in a month with all the marring right back, or go to a "professional" detailer who does it for the "glory," to say "yeah look how bad that car was and look at it now!" not damn how many more do i have to do today
