Default Attention All Md Owners!

Don't let legislators increase the cost of auto repairs by taxing us more. Find out the details.

I don't think it's anyhting to really worry too much about, a 5% versus 6% isn't going to break the bank. Maybe I'm more confident saying that since I do most of my own maintanance/ repairs but 1% really? anyhow we have a deficit to take care of whether we like it or not and I really think we should be doing something to take care of it. The selfish part of me want to lower taxes so I can do more stuff with my car but the idealist in me wants to see some changes in this state and I know that can't happen without money. if I'm giving up my money and I don't get changes i got somehting to complain about if I'm not giving up any money I can't cry when things get worse.

bear in mind that the government takes a third of my paycheck every month and I'm not rich so I know how much taxes hurt.

Granted, 1% is not a lot but considering the BGE increases and gas prices this doesn't help any consumer. This just means it's more money I got to spend "in case" I have to get work done at a shop. Not to mention it taxing something so specific. I don't think that's right. The more money I can keep the better. I do most of my own work too, but anything to help me and my family out is better than me paying more,. ... anywhere. Bottom line it's about me an my family.

I feel ya. I don't have a family to look after and if so maybe I'd feel differently but for now I'm more interested in building my community than my bank account. But I do get where you're coming from

Wise words being spoken...I would have to say I am ashamed of the petty taxes the state of MD has. It is said that this state has no problem producing revenue it is the management of funds are horrible. Love it here but VA is looking sweet.

Building your community more than your bank account?
I think you've missed the point of this thread......

pehaps you missed the point of my statement...
I'm saying that you can't complaint if your inflexible. If you want things to change make sacrifice and if that sacrifice itsn't met with progress then you have a reason to complain. A 1% increase on a rare event isn't going to make a big impact on my life but if that's a big enough sacrifice to make so that we have books in schol etc., I'm all for it. like I said, I see where he is coming from since a lil tax here and there adds up. My point is that I don't have to worry about stacking my dollars as much as he does so I'm more interested in using that money towards building the community as I know that people generally won't do it if they are left to choose.

No, no. No point missed. Wow, all I gotta say is Wow.

Either way, you're entitled to your opinion and I respect that. Different strokes for different folks.

Children,,,,,Orange,,, LilGZ,,,,, now if the 2 of you can't play nicely together then I am gonna have to put each of you on TIME OUT. LOL!!!!

Orange, I kow that you are a teacher,,and boy do I hear it coming out of you here in this response. I understand your points and they are very valid ones but in reality, you and I both know that the state is not gonna use that money to fund putting another book in the schools (as they really should). I mean look at the mess that the city just recently went thru with the school system and state deciding to just totally reorganize things and put people in the wrong key positions. The MD, particularly Baltimore City schools systems were turned upside down. You know this as well as I. My mom has worked for City school headquarters for the past 30 + years, and I watched her go thru the headaches of the so called reorganizational plan. Look what happened,, funding was cut,, state came in and took over MORE schools, and evntually it is the children who suffer b/c the state is only worried about pushing numbers and not concerned about the little philosophy of "No child left behind." Cmon now,, I am appealing to the teacher in you. Do ya hear me? I don't think that anyone would have any problem with the increase IF it were guaranteed that it WOULD go into building/rebuilding the community,, and nothing else. [Education, neighborhood re-vitilization, etc would all be apart of this]. Unfortunately, it has been just about everyone's experience that the money will only go to the funding of yet another unnecessary road project, hotel, whatever,, and that money just will not be spent wisely (in the mindset of public view).

Lil GZ,, play nice!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

haha he started it!!!

Yeah man I kow what you you mean. You know that I'm frustrated with the failed system because I only work with the students that the system has failed. My phylosophy requires me to give the devil a chance to prove he's not the devil before I tear the horns off his head. O'mally is relativlely new so I say we'll see how much he cares about keeping his word before we give up on him. Idealistic? ...yeah. waste of time and money?...probably. Gonna bankrupt me?... Naw... well my car was already bankrupting me anyways.

wanna play hopscotch GZ?

props to all of NELOC for being conscious of "what's going on"

Props to Orange for being a teacher in Bmore.. I once had the passion to teach and still try to find time to sub on my RDO.(If I am not at Crazy Rays) The city school system was so bad that I no longer wanted to teach full time. No text book could prepare you for what is in Baltimore City. I am sure O'Mally is aware of the chaos and I think he means well. Although I am enjoying the money Uncle Sam is paying me. I will get back in the classroom one day.

Gotta love politics. Well not really. I apologize to have started this. I didn't mean for it to spark up a talk about politics. With that said,....

Everyone has good comments. But to be honest when does throwing money at a problem really fix it(unless it's our cars)? Especially in the government, here has to be accountability for issues such as this. The problem isn't that MD doesn't have enough money. It's that they don't know how to manage it. There are many worthy services that have been cut, but MD still can't operate within their budget. I have to live within my budget why can't the state do the same? Sure 1% isn't going to bankrupt me. But what happens when this doesn't help either. What are they gonna tax then?

BTW: I'm proposing to tax everyone who has posted on this thread because the powers that be have said that this thread could be getting out of hand. So please send the money to my paypal account so I can better manage this thread. Thank you. LOL

Thank You for comments everyone.
