I used to use this thing http://www.autolock.com/Unbreakable_Auto_BL.htm religiously on my S4 anytime I parked outside of a garage.

I assume your car got recovered in Newark? It seems like all the thefts in North Jersey are for joyrides that end in Newark. Good luck with the repairs man.
i bought the autolock when it first came out. It's been sitting in my garage for years. It comes with that yellow cloth that you put over the steeringwheel to let the crooks know that you have it. Good device I'm just afraid that it will get stuck in the lock position, and I can't drive my own car Any of the locals want it for a reasonable price

This is a bit cynical, but I figure I just need to make my car harder to steal than the nice car five spaces down. I think the Autolock is a pretty effective deterrent though when it comes to stopping joy riders (especially the ones in north Jersey); now professional car thieves are generally going to get your car no matter what if they really want it.
