For those that may be wondering, the difference between the SL2i and the SL2i-UP is just the cable that goes to the iPod (part number IPODSL2I72UP)

Hi- a few questions
1- where in TX are you?
2- which cable is included? does this charge your iphone or is IPODSL2I72UP needed to do that?

I am located in Houston, TX.

Comes with the SL2i cable and necessary installation harnesses. IPODSL2I72UP cable not included.

The SL2i cable will only charge iPod/iPhone products that charges using 12v. If you are using the later generation iPod/iPhones that require 5v charging, you will need the IPODSL2I72UP cable to charge. You cannot charge an iPad with the SL2i unit regardless of cables.

5v charging iPods consists of:

iPods Touch 2G
iPod Nano 4G
iPhone 2G (Also known as the 3G)
iPod Classic 7th Gen

I believe everything before this uses 12V charging.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if you have to be the original owner to get firmware updates?

I'm not certain, but from posts seen on their forum, it looks like the provide firmware to anyone. They seem to have great customer service as well, so I think you should be good.

You could call or email them to confirm.
