Windshield Replacement Issues
About a week ago, my brand new (one month old) 2022 ES 350 F Sport gets a crack in the windshield on my first trip out of town. It's about an inch long and not directly in my line of sight, but on the driver's side. I took it to a windshield repair shop and they repaired it using resin, but the crack is still visible. When the sun hits it just right - about half the time on a sunny day - it reflects brightly and is very annoying. The state law where I reside enables me to get the windshield replaced with no deductible, so cost is not an issue. But the car is loaded with all the high-tech features, e.g., lane assist, automatic headlight dimming, wiper sensors, adaptive cruise control, etc. I have read and heard about various problems after a windshield replacement - leaks, safety/convenience features not working properly, and other issues. I don't like having a small crack in the windshield of my new car, but I'm reluctant to do something that may create other problems. The Lexus dealer - the only one in town - doesn't repair windshields but recommends a particular local, independent shop. I would have to take it in and wait a couple of hours for the replacement and recalibration, and was told it would be OEM glass. Has anyone here had issues with windshield replacement and do you have any advice or suggestions?
Crack repairs doesn't get rid of cracks, it's just filled to prevent it from spreading. You will get some weird reflections from it. Maybe check nearby towns for other shops or another Lexus dealer? Many just send it out to other shops I think. But there has to be a Lexus dealer that does do it, becaues Toyota does provide documentation for the workers to perform the replacement. (For example, I have documentation for my 07 ES that was for dealerships).
I also suggest read some reviews for places and see if people bring their Lexus vehicles there, and what they to say about it.

Factory replacement glass is the only glass I would want installed in my Lexus. Lexus glass is thicker and it is sound deadening by design. Some insurance companies will have their glass companies install their own glass unless the customer requests factory OEM glass. As far as the sensors are concerned, recalibrating sensors is what the glass companies are use to doing on modern cars, like body shops align and recalibrate parking sensors in bumpers commonly. I had a broken side window installed on my 05’ tundra and I had the glass shop install their brand of glass and the difference was noticeable, the glass was thinner and rattled when the glass was rolled down, I returned the glass and had them find a used window from a wrecking yard and install it.
