Angry my battery popped today, again

As I turned on the ignition I heard a pop and white smoke came out of the hood. I knew right away the battery popped because my battery exploded once, three years ago.
Replaced it with an Exide one and everything is okay now.

Anyone has any ideas why battery explodes?

extreme heat conditions....at least this is one reason. I haven't done a lot of research, but I would say do a search for exploding battery...I think it has come up before. It has happened on other vehicles that I had....so check into that....engine bay not getting adequate ventilation?

Your battery exploded? Inside your engine compartment?

That is a wet cell Acid/Lead battery. It's explosion would have sent sulphuric acid splashing all over your engine and components under the hood.

Sulphuric Acid is extremely corrosive. You would have had severe underhood damage resulting from your batteries explosion.

Here is a link to some info on batteries that will help.

Hi all,

My engine bay is just normal and clean. I don't have any aftermarket systems in my car neither. The day that the battery exploded was in the high 80's but I parked in the shade. Since this is the second time it happened I notice that that it happens at the end of the battery's life, 3-4 years. However having driven for a long time and having personally replaced numerous batteries I never had one exploded.
