My Lex dealer offers Mobil 1. If yours does not, there is no rule saying you can't buy it and bring it in.
As long as it is an acceptable grade and weight, most dealers won't have a problem putting it in.
It might even save you a few bucks.

Stevie, a dealer here said they didn't carry it but they'd order synth., but I bought mine and will have them install it.
Really seems odd to have to take a now very standard replacement product in to a major dealer, but I'll do it to make sure I get the best in my baby!
I think BMW uses synth. as original installation oil, is that right? Do other major manufacturers?

It may come down to how much the dealer can store. I think at the dealer, this stuff is stored in big drums, not 1qt. bottles. It may be also that not enough people at your dealer ask for it, so it may not be profitable for them to make it available.
When in doubt, bring your own.
MB also come from factory with synthetic now, I believe.

I know the AMG Benzes come with synth, according to the Mobil 1 ads. Not sure if BMW uses synth, but my 318i only needed oil changes every 10K miles, so I'm guessing it's synth.
