Default 2005 RX330 maintenance questions

So, my Mother has an 05 RX330 with 71K miles. She recently took it in for an oil change and the dealership is stating it needs quite a bit of work done, so I wanted to get your guys' opinion on the recommended services.

1. Front lower control arm bushings started to tear, need replacement.

2. Timing belt needs replacement (due to it being over 6 years old, though under the mileage when recommended for replacement).

3. Water pump replacement (due to coolant residual stain....whatever the F that means).

4. Right rear strut leaking, recommend replacing.

5. Power steering flush (fluid dirty).

So, thoughts on this?

Control arm bushings can tear, causing excessive movement in the front suspension.. it can effect tire wear, handling, noise, etc. Id ask them to show you how bad they are.. if it has small cracks in the rubber, it can probably wait.. torn, then it should be done.

Id only do the timing belt if you plan to do the water pump... slight dry seepage can usually wait for replacement. Unless its showing a pretty heavy leak, id just keep an eye on it.

If the strut is leaking bad enough for them to notice, it probably should be replaced.

Power steering fluid is good to flush as party of routine maintenance.. otherwise solids in the fluid can cause leakage at the seals. Fluid gets old, dirty, and contaminated... same reason to change any other fluid in the car.

Basically, you need to clarify how bad the leaks you have are.. and go from there.

Thanks for the info. Ill have her take it back into another dealer to get a second opinion. All in all its a bit over $2k in work they are stating.

The way technicians look at it is that. When you have very little miles on your older model car things will need replacing before time gets The better hand of it. When lexus trained me they made sure knew to recommend waterpump replacements only after seal or pump failure. Wheep holes leak to vent coolant as designed from time to time. So skipped the water pump and timing belt till the scheduled 90k. Other things may actually be a problem if they are actually discovered.
