Question will aftermarket Air Mass Sensor increase performance?

hey, i was wondering if replacing the air mass sensor would give an increase in performance? the acceleration is nice after you get to about 4000 rpm. any ideas on how to increase acceleration off the line? any upgrade suggestions are welcome as well.

I'll tell some of what I did to the '92 SC400;removed the MAF,carefully removed the screen, very carefully removed the sensor from the housing, then took a file to the surfaces just inside the entrance to the housing that oppose the airflow, making them rounded, bullet shaped.
The vane that separates the idle bypass area should be rounded up towards the main passage;if you increase the air to the idle area, you'll need to make unecessary idle adjustments.
If you want to tweak in the mixture after doing this, you can take the flat plug that hides the adjustment screw and make only very small adjustments to make it all perfect, helps to mark where it was to start in case you get lost.
My car also has the front of the airbox opened up and ducted to an opening under the bumper.
I passed smog with all zeros after doing this too, made a real nice difference in the lower revs for response.
If you have access to machine work,I can tell more, but that's pretty much the main part anyhow.
