Skipping LS400
I'm in Alpharetta, and thought you guys might have some input on an LS400 I'm considering. It's a '93 LS400 112k miles - the owner is a friend and has spared no expense maintaining it. However, I'm keeping it this weekend for a test drive and I've noticed there is a sort of chugging feel to the ride. I wouldn't call it a hesitation or a skip because it seems to accellerate VERY SMOOTHLY. But when you reach a level speed (whether it's 40 miles an hour or 70) the car engine has a tugging feel. First: are there recommendations for quick fixes (ie. fuel additives, octane change, techron charged gas) and secondly - who do you guys use for repairs. I think I would like to get somone to give it a once over before commiting. It is cosmetically flawless (a few lines in the leather - no cracks) the paint and body look new and he's selling it to me for 10k - opinions? Thanks

Welcome Lhaymond,
I'm moving your post to the 'Maintenance' section where you'll get more input from the Lexus tech folks on the board on the tugging issue.
Edit - might want to do a new post in the LS400 section to get some input on the cost based on the condition of the car.

Lhaymond,
I replied to your PM. I am in Alpharetta too. I would strongly recommend letting Ozzi check out the car for you like he did mine. The price sounds fair to me, especially since you know the owner and the service history. I will be happy to take you for a ride in my Lexus if you want to compare. I think after you ride in mine with 208k miles you will be a believer in the longevity of these cars. They are amazing. Mine doesn't chug, even at 100 mph plus

Thanks for the advice. Ozzy gave it the thumbs up. I need to replace the coolant reservoir and a couple of gaskets. Of course in another 8k miles I'll need to do the 120k timing belt, plugs etc. Out of curiosity ... what do the Atlanta dealers charge for the 120k servicing. thanks again for recommending Ozzy - he runs my kind of shop!
Glad to hear Ozzy gave it the thumbs up.
Everyone I have sent his way has been very pleased. I am not sure what the Atlanta dealers charge for the 120 k service. I would call Hennessy and Nalley and average the two. I do know they wanted $850 to replace my power steering pump (Nalley), Ozzi rebuilt mine and replaced some other parts for around $350.
