Quick question. I am installing TM plugs. I have the air intake and coil removed and I find what looks like a rubber insulation boot with the tip of the plug protruding. I tried to pull it out with light pressure and had no luck. Surely, this comes out to expose the plug. Got to be getting close, but I don't want to tear the insulator/sealer/whatever. UPDATE: Turns out this was the plug boot which had separated from the coil. Found a $6 boot extractor at the local auto store. I slipped my fingers under the other coils to make sure I was moving the boot as I twisted the coil. No other problems. My GS400 has 40k miles and is/was stock. The new plugs made a helluva difference. Not sure if the original plugs had lost their zip or whether the plugs are just that good. There appeared to be a little scorching on the porcelain at the base of several plugs. Otherwise, they looked normal. But, if these were supposed to be 100k-mile plugs, they sure don't compare with the TMs at 40k. One other note about taking on this project. Removing the stock air intake was a little more involved than the previous posts let on. Wonder if I am now qualified to install one of these intake upgrades? Took me about three hours, including removing the battery to get leverage on the stubborn plug boot.
