What would cause the "VSC" and "VSC Off" light to illuminate intermittently? Sometimes they will light until I shut the car off. They are not on when I restart the car, although they may light up eventually. The CEL is not on.

A number of things can make that light come on, you could have a fault in the ABS or VSC system somewhere, possibly a speed sensor going out or something similar. You will need to put a scan tool on it, if you can get ahold of one, or take it to a shop or dealer and have them pull the codes out of it. If the light has come on, there should be stored trouble codes.

 

RTIS250 is right on the money. If you take it to the shop ask them to check your charging system. If the alternator is getting weak its may set the VSC light too(most likely code are all four wheel speed sensors and abnormal voltage for ABS ecu).
