Default Navigation Update

Has anyone done a Navigation update (with DVD) by themselves? My RX is two years old and I'm planning a long road trip this summer and would like to update the Navigation. Dealer want $400 to do it but I can buy the DVD update for much less but don't know how complicated it is to do myself.

Any comments?

Thanks

The 04-06 RX nav DVD is a PITA to get to. You have to remove all the rear cargo covers to get to the Nav DVD ECU and change the disc. It take me about 30 minutes with air tool and do it about 10 times in the past. If your car is only 2-3 years old the new DVD update not gonna do any good because they only update some part of the nation.

The new DVD only update some intersection and street in certain big city. It takes about 2-4 years to write up the new software, so your 06 RX software was write up in 2002-2004 and your new DVD in 2009 software was write up in 2006.

My RX is a 2007. Is that a different update procedure?

I've done this once on a Hondy Odyssey and it really is just a case of inserting a new DVD and watching the on-screen prompts.. Obviously if you're DVD drive is hidden behind some compartments then you've got more work involved.. My '06 GS300 has it in the glove box so it's at most a 5 minute job.. Haven't done it yet on that one -- no need to yet as it never leaves LA anyway...
