Default Code reader

Im have a 1992 SC400 and my alternator and check engine lights are on. I have replaced the alternator and power steering line. I have no leaking fluids. The check engine light will go off for a short period of time when I disconnect the battery but it returns. Also I have been trying to locate a code reader or any place that has one. All the auto stores in my area do not go down to 1992. Also the rear of my SC400 appears to scrubb when I hit the slightest inperfection in the road. Please help.

don't need a code reader for the early model Lexus... just a paperclip

I don't have time to post a copy of the instructions or what the codes mean right this second, but if you search, you will find em...

If not, then I'll post them when I get home from work tonight...

aasc300 I am located in Warner Robins Georgia. I retired from Fort Jackson about 15 years ago, did a little part time security work at USC, yea an old guy. I had to give my much more dependable truck to my college kid. I am trying to get this car road ready, it drives well, but not good enough to impress the wife yet. I probably mistated my problem, I have no way of getting the codes.

Gentlemen I think I get it now, I will build a jumper and probably use a video recorder so I can play back the results and get it right. Then I will take the parts and money to my local shade tree machanic (I have great confidence in him). To be continued on this same Bat Channel.
