Default Sc300 oil leak problem

hey guys ok my car has a small leak so i asked a mechanic to look at it while i had some other things checked up on so he calls and tells me that it is a leak from the valve gasket? and that it is leaking into the sparkplugs and filling it up and than spilling out that is what is leaking. so is this possible and he says it is a very expensive job. i dont know if i should believe him or not because i didnt really look into the leak before i let him check it out. i just told him to hold off on the job. any advice?

The valve gasket leak isn't as uncommon as you think. It happens to many cars. I'd be surprised if your mechanic is making up this story.

I agree this is a very common leak, honestly VCG's is a rather easy DIY on the SC300..........just time consuming. When I changed mine the gaskets were literally in pieces and the oil leak was pretty bad for god knows how long, but from a spark plug stand point it never caused an issue.

Ask him what the cost would be.

If the valve cover was bad and leaking it can ultimately cause oil to hit your plugs, and make your car more sluggish.

its not that hard you can knock it out in a few hours. dont take off the whole intake manifold. and mark your vacuum lines if you cant remember where it all goes.

like 30 for vcg and 40 for oem plugs and about 8 hours of youre time, its pretty straight foward but just be carefull when removing the 2 bolts under the y intake, its the hardest part, you might want to remove the intake behind the y so that its loose enough to wiggle everything around it will make life a lot easier
