Default A/C Issues on hot days

I have a 2001 RX300. She still looks great and runs great. I have one issue I'd like some feedback on. When the outside temp gets around 93 or so, and the car is exposed for a reasonable amount of time, windows closed, the A/C puts out air thru the floor vents as well as the upper vents. When I try to cycle manually it won't stay on upper vents only. I can also hear what sounds like a stuck valve or some type of mechanism just above where the passengers feet would be. The unit is also hot to the touch. Is this switch or relay my problem? If so how much is a new one? I'm sure I can change it myself. How boutcha' guys...anybody have a similiar problem?

You have two servo motors. One for the air mix and one for the mode. I think it around $300.00 for each( don' t quote me on this one). The units mounted behind the glove box on the cooler unit. The air mix servo not hard to get to,but the mode servo is mounted with a couple of screw behind the heater pipe.

you might be able to take it apart and physically inspect it too... often, something gets down inside there and gets the door stuck... I have not replaced one personally on a Lexus, but if it's like most other cars, many times its not the actual motor itself that goes bad, but the door inside gets stuck, bent, broken, which keeps the motor from moving it all the way...

I've see this problem all the time on the RX with bad servo motors.
