You'll never convince the 87 users.
They spend big $$$ and buy a Lexus and then skimp on octane.
They know more than the engineers.
You can use 87 but to get the best performance and MPG,premium is the choice.
assuming you actually tested it, remember that the ecu can pull timing a ton, so, if you had some real bad knock from low octane, it may be less or more than even when you tested it...

Good point. Stubbornness is a bad trait to have. I've had the car for 5 years and I've been using 87 octane ever since. Maybe for my next car I'll switch to premium.

Not only that, but to preserve the longevity of the engine since it is high compression, the premium is recommended. The car ECU needs to see the extra octane to prevent knock like mitsuguy said. Trust the DSM guys, we know about knock and octane points

I use 93 in my 94 GS300. I havent changed the oil yet (just got it a week ago, changing it sometime in the next week). I plan to use Mobil1 5w30 full synthetic. Im used to using only Mobil1 full syn with 93 octane from my DSM's, so I dont mind giving the GS top notch products. No need to skimp on a few bucks now, because doing so will cost you more in the long run.

those little engines were really picky with fuel! amazing what some MS109 and 25 lbs of boost on a 20g will do though!
