Default 94 LS400 Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement Help ???

Can anyone help me with the time and difficulty in replacing my left rear wheel bearing by myself? The Dealer said it would cost $1200 and NTB said it would cost $850.00 with 3 1/2 to 4 hours of Labor (seems like a lot of hours???). I have purchased the OEM Wheel Bearing, Hub & Inner and Outer Seals for $270.00 from IronToadbut not sure how difficult it will be to install myself? Do you have step by step instructions because I do not have an instruction manual. Have replaced bearings on a Chevrolet Impala, but imagine this is a little more complicated. Thanks for any help or advice. Tyndale Cobb

It seems like no on wants to help you out here. I will tell you they are not fun to and you will need a basic bottle press and some sort of round fitting to press out the hub from the bearing and bearing from the spindle. The ball joints suck *** and you will need someone knowledgeable in the area. If you have a descent amount of experience then I would say go for it! But only if you have the resources available. I found a link for a mkiv supra removal and installation I will find it again and post a link. Remember when pressing bearings in you need to be dead on centerbecause if not you could damage the races and you'll need a whole new bearing otherwise! The breakdown is: remove caliper then mounting plate, rotor, E-brake assembly, remove all bolts pertaining to ball joints attaching to the spindle, remove ball joints(that's a *****!). Remove spindle, remove brake dust shield, press hub out of bearing, press bearing out of spindle. Then basically reverse for installation. Make sure you know the proper torque rating for your axel nut before you get started on the installation. The sc300 and supra is rated at 213 ft/pnds So yours is probably close.

unfortunately I have no better info to give you than Soarer did...

pressed in wheel bearings suck to do like that... what may save your butt though, is that you might be able to find a shop that will just press in the bearing by itself... IE - you take them the hub and the new parts, they charge you an hour labor, and voila - bearing is installed... Without the proper size press and / or adapters, you are SOL...

Wheel bearings on the Impala - way easy - they are unit bearings - you pop out the axle, unbolt the hub and you are on your way... unfortunately, ours are not like that...

i honestly wish they were like nissans design. where in fact the hub and bearing assembly just bolt on and off. that's why doing a 300zx hub conversion on my 240 was cake.
This will likely help a bunch http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/rea...ing/index.html

I'm embarking on the same job as well - so far I have the left knuckle almost off. I'm going to finish the teardown tomorrow. I'm going to make a trip down to Carquest for bushings and my bearings/seals are arriving from Tennessee via Rock Auto.
