The best time to change the pan gasket, clean the magnets in the pan and clean the metal filter screen is when the transmission shift control solenoids need replacing which can be anywhere between 125,000 - 300,000 miles depending on whether most driving is in the city or on the highway When wierd shifting develops, it nearly always means the solenoids need to be replaced.

Wanted to bump this old thread. I did a drain and fill yesterday using T4 aft. 3qts came out, so 3 went back in. Now I'm good until 160k. I have 130k now. Feels good to know this simple DIY will extend my tranny easily to 300k.
