I read my entire owner's manual and could not believe it did not state the the type refrigerant needed (R12 vs R134). Can anyone help me out? Sorry to say people, I'm developing a slighted viewpoint of Lexus Corp. Lexus may be the Japanese revenge cars. It's mind boggling the markup on parts just because it's a Lexus. The manual is written not provide any serviceable functions. Much of the material used to make the car is sub par. Nuf said.

Cool

Your car uses r-12. Lexus didn't start using r-134 until about 1994.

It's an owner's manual, not a repair manual.

Are you having a problem with your ac right now?

Yes. It's blowing hot air. I looked at the viewing window and saw no bubbles. It's probably empty. I think the cause is when I turn on my heat the A/C comes on as well. I have to manually turn the A/C off. This happens whenever I turn on the unit. Is that normal? Thanks in advance.

P.S. I know it's a owners manual but, read any other service manual and it will give specification for any fluids, lubricants, etc.. for the vehicle.

Yes, it's normal for the ac to come on when pushing the "auto" button. Does the ac compressor clutch engage when you turn the ac on? If so, you might have a bad compressor. There is freon in the system, but it's not pumping through. If clutch is not engaging, maybe your out of freon. Too many other things could be the cause also. Get it to a shop.

Devildog,

I'm hopeful it's the lack of or absence of freon. I'll know soon enough.

Do you know how many cans of freon is needed from empty. I know I'll need oil.

You can't buy freon in cans anymore. But they usually take about 2lbs of freon.
