Transmission fluid question.
Yes guys I know this has been covered but wanted some advice on my particular situation.
Checked my tranny fluid the other day and found it to not be the cherry red that it was awhile ago ( i dont remember the last time i checked it cuz i dont drive the car that much anymore). Anyhow it was awhile ago. SO I called my mechanic and scheduled a tranny fluid change ( not a flush ). when i drove up he seemed puzzled that i wanted to change it in my 91' LS. he has the same car as me as well as many other lexi and told me i shouldnt have to change it especially if it wasnt done on the regular b4. Now although i trust him and he is VERY reputable ( he is the area ferrari/porsche benz lex etc. guy) this seemed odd to me.
Anyone have any input or similar experiences?

Ask your mechanic what the transmission life expectancy is. Typically the same "mechanics" who say you don't have to practice aggressive preventive maintenance (like regular transmission fluid changes) are the same ones who will later tell you (when your transmission fails) that the normal life expectancy of a Lexus transmission is only 150,000 - 200,000 miles.
Of about nine 400,000+ mile Toyota owners I have become acquainted with, all serviced their own Toyotas following a strict preventive maintenance schedule including draining and refilling the 2 quarts of fluid in the transmission oil pan about every 15,000 miles.

I'd rather be safe than sorry.....preventitive maintenance is the best way to keep your vehicle trouble free from any major breakdown or component failures. Might wven want to consider a complete 100% fluid change with the special transmission flushing equipment they have today (flushes the torque converter as well) & use a good quality tranny fluid that is approved for your Lexus.
