Seatbelts not retracting ? Solutions !!!
Ok, I have read here that other are having problems with their seatbelts not recoiling up. The only fix was to buy a new one at $150.00
I experimented around and found a couple of solutions.
Use dry film lubricant with teflon on the seat belt slider (where the seat belt
enters into the pillar.) This is a source of friction.
Second pull out the mechanism buried in the pillar and unwind
seatbelt all the way. Then pull out clip that holds the end of the
seatbelt into the roller and give the roller a couple of turns to increase
spring pressure, reinstall seat belt and clip. Make sure you hang onto the
thing as it will unwind on you.
The only other last resort is that the spring coil could be dry or contaminated.
I drilled a tiny hole in the plastic housing where the spring was and shot some
teflon lube into the hole. This will allow the spring coil to slide on itself internally
much easier. Try the other two suggestions first.

There has been some discussion of warranty. Mine is almost 10 years old, so
there wouldnt be any warranty left. Do you mean a recall ?
I found this link for TSB
http://www.alldata.com/TSB/31/95310202.html
but these arent freebie repairs, just known issues right ?
What is serious is the Explosive Device connected to the seat belt
tensioner mechanism. So anyone working on it, be careful !!!

Are you asking about the explosive device ?
There is an actual explosive device connected to the seat belt retractor.
I think it is synced up with the airbag so it locks the seatbelt position
in event of crash. I am not sure why they couldnt do a solenoid, maybe
it isnt fast enough ?

Becareful when working with seatbelt pretensioner or the explosive device you're talking about. That why Lexus put the label on all the explosive devices with bright yellow connector. It won't kill you or take off your arm,but if it explosed close to your eye or face, who knows? We're taking special care when replacing the seat belt and detonate it before displosal.
I rather pay $150.00 for a new one than try to fix it and injure myself. I don't think this worth the risk.
I will closed this thread and if you have any question please PM me in private.
