2011 GX460 Needs Air Pump And Swithing Valves? What?
Anyone had experience with this and can add some insight? Yesterday the 4Lo light, Check Engine Light, and Slip light comes on.....Per dealership needs Air pump at $800 and 2 switching valves at $300 and $350....$1916 total.....
Service writer couldn't give a great explination as to what those were for....Just that Lexus said replace them. Any extra help greatly apprecaited.
Also, my luck, vehicles is 5000 miles over its warrantly..we have had 6 Lexus products. I might plead the case to cover under warranty but can't be upset if they didn't. Worth a try anyhow?

The air injection system operates at cold start mostly... You usually hear that vacuum cleaner high pitched noise on a cold startup, thats the air pump operating. The pump is on the right side of the engine bay, under the plastic cover, right behind the headlight. There are a number of hoses and pipes, and two valves, one on top of each valve cover, with more pipes leading to the exhaust manifold.
Not sure what happened to yours, but it wouldnt be the first time ive seen it fail. If you have a decent service history with Lexus, not just car purchases, then it wouldnt hurt to contact Lexus and seek some kind of assistance.
