Default sc problem

Went to the dealership today to get the plugs changed. While there, the technician reported my car had a leaking distributor, the o-ring needed to be changed. There wasn't that much oil coming out but here's the big deal. It sits right over the alternator. Even I know there could be major problems if oil leaked into the alternator. My car was running great, I had no idea, I thought there was just a little dirt and grease there. I should have put my finger in there, it was covered with oil. The tech told me this was a common problem with the sc's. Don't know if everyone else knew. Just wanted to spread the word.

It's common problem for the 1st gen SC300 after a lot of miles/years. It's not hard to do, but a lot precautions( timing mark and align the timing).

Reggie, it is a common problem on the first gen gs also.I had my done at my 90000 mile service and it hasn't leaked since. As for the alternator, I wouldn't be very concerned about it.Just get that seal replaced to avoid the leaking oil.If you want I can introduce you to my lexus mechanic. He's been working on my car since day 1.

I let them fix it at the dealer for $135. I need some other things done. To compare prices, ask your mechanic how much he charges for the distibutor o-ring replacement.
